If you are curious about underwater photography, are a novice, a serious amateur or a professional; the Society has a lot to offer you!

Get the answers to your questions about underwater photography and learn about the latest equipment and techniques.
The LAUPS membership is made up of all levels of experience from beginner to professional that has a wealth of information to share. In addition, the LAUPS holds monthly mini-workshops on various photographic topics and hosts guest speakers presenting programs of interest to underwater photographers. In the past the LAUPS has had Scott Friar from Nikon discuss the latest in Nikon gear, Dan Blodget from Subaquatic Camera Repair give a detailed workshop on camera maintenance and Mark Comon, who teaches photography at Pauls Photo, give an outstanding presentation on Travel Photography.

Participate in monthly photo competitions.
The LAUPS holds monthly photography competitions in which all members can enter and vote. Photo competitions provide an opportunity to view other members' work and to see how other photographers respond to your own images. Awards for club competitions are presented at the Awards Banquet held in January of the following year.

See local and exotic marine life and learn about exciting dive destinations.
Monthly club meetings start with a prelude, which is a "show and tell" slide show featuring images from trips taken by our membership. In addition, monthly presentations include slide shows from interesting dive destinations. In the past we have had Larry & Denise Tackett present a program entitled "Secrets of Sulawesi - The Magic of Lembeh Strait", an outstanding program on diving Kungkungan Bay. We have had a wonderful presentation by Patty Shales on diving in the Southern Red Sea. And one of our members, Mary Jane Adams, gave a beautiful slide show on Papua New Guinea; she had visited there fourteen times!

Enjoy the LAUPS sponsored diving trips.
The LAUPS sponsors an Anacapa shootout each year. Participants shoot a roll of film (or go digital!) at Anacapa Island and at a subsequent club meeting, the members present select the winners. Many of our membership dive regularly, and are happy to share information on upcoming, unsponsored local dive trips that are popular with underwater photographers.

Meet new friends who share your interest.
The LAUPS is one of the largest groups of its kind in Southern California and is dedicated to art of underwater photography. The club mailing list is a great resource for the discussion of UW photo issues and for finding dive buddies. Subscribe here.
