Best of Show

We would like to thank all those who entered this years competition and all the generous sponsors who made this event possible. Also a special thanks to renowned painter Rogest. Rogest will create an original painting using an image of his choice from one of the First Place images or the Best of Show. The resulting painting will be auctioned ending during Scuba Show 2004 with proceeds going to Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary Foundation in Santa Barbara, California.
The number of great images entered this year made the judging especially difficult and the winners were once again spectacular.  The entries were judged on October 4 & 5, 2003. A special thanks to our sponsor Thermostatic Industries for allowing us to use their facilities for receiving the entries and the judging.  There were entries from 16 countries and 17 states. The list of the winning entries is included, pending any disqualification for rule violations.

Our four judges this year were Mark Strickland, Clay Wiseman, Jim Harlan and Bruce Bonnett.  All have a lot of experience as underwater photographers with a keen appreciation for technique, artistic rendering and degree of difficulty.  Although it's not possible to relay their individual impressions of each entrants work, they were kind enough to discuss some general observations on the contest and material judged.  A summary is included.
